“Magical Mystics” music video

Posted in Video on May 6, 2016 by Chase Spivey

Ben Lindesmith and I shared Director and Camera Operator roles on this music video from OKC’s The Dirty Little Betty’s. The idea was to blend an early 20th century americana vagabond look with iconic imagery from the Tarot.

My first commercial spot. I love all the weird things they have in the store and I love watching them come to life thanks to the animation skills of Thom Proctor.

“Heart Cafe”

I was motivated by a desire to make something wistful and cheery after being told that I made “dark art”. Days of mapping out the distance and timing of shots culminated into one 6 hour live-action animation process that was very fun to be part of. With Thom and Attila on the same set, the biggest problem is really just to stop laughing long enough to get the shot. The ephemera that dances on the tabletops were toys that Thom has had since he was a small child, of which, his favorite is the little blue octopus introduced at 0:56.

“Nowhere to Hide” music video

Posted in Video on October 13, 2011 by Chase Spivey

Attila Balazs and I directed and edited this together from a concept that came to me while riding the bike around town listening to Magnificent Bird on headphones. This was the first time that I’ve been able to work with real studio lights, which allowed me to capture some “film noir style” shots. I will remember this as one of the easiest, funniest and most efficient video shoots I’ve ever done, even though it rained on us the whole time. Shot in 10 hours at 7 locations during one very rainy weekend.
